This daunting fact can of course confuse but as the curtain lining experts, we are here to help and explain why we don't think our Product Management Team has gone completely mad. We believe that a curtain is not a curtain until it is lined and that, if it is the face fabric that offers design, it is the lining that backs up its good looks and delivers performance to match any particular window's needs. So to prevent linings being an afterthought and help you too become a curtain expert, consider the following benefits of various types of linings:
Protection & Light Exclusion
Protecting your face fabric and room interiors from the sun's heat and damaging UV. Textiles are like skin and need a Protection Factor appropriate to climate and exposure. Even North and South facing windows in the same house will be very different and protection is a function of fibre, weight, construction and finishing process. Have a look at Chromax UV, Elements Home or Platinum.
Keeping out the light. We are all familiar with blackout and dimout curtains in hotels but their use at home is increasingly popular to create that home cinema, help shift workers sleep during the day, or just give Mum and Dad that summer Sunday lie in by keeping the kids' rooms dark!
Thermal and Acoustic Insulation
Thermal insulation. Just like clothing, if you add layers and weight you can keep out the cold, but like double glazing, the right combination of linings and interlinings can also keep out the heat.
Acoustic insulation. Heavy linings and particularly coated ones will help keep noise out, or in, just like double glazing. Ideal for the budding Jimi Hendrix at home or across the road!

Convenience. Curtain making skills and time are becoming increasingly rare in this hectic world. Whilst we are thrilled to see so many of our products still being used in traditional ways, we appreciate that curtain making and maintenance are a challenge for some people. Teflon(r) linings will protect, certain linings are washable, others are crease resistant and yet more are combined with interlinings to make sewing easier.
